Syndicated radio host Tom Joyner of The Tom Joyner Morning Show named Mildred Muhammad the "Tide Thursday Morning Mom". Joyner acknowledged Mildred with the honor after her interview with his program host Jacque Reid on Tuesday, October 20. During the interview Joyner praised Mildred for the strength she displayed to protect her children after her ex-husband, John Muhammad, was named the DC sniper.
Mildred thanked Joyner and his morning show team for uplifting her spirits during her family's public ordeal in October 2002. She expressed that it was because of the Tom Joyner Morning Show that she was able to have a smile on her face for
her children.
Joyner designated Thursday's as Mother's Day and has partnered with Tide to present deserving mothers with $1,000.00. The donation will go to Mildred's nonprofit organization, After The Trauma.
Through nine programs, from mentoring and education to transportation, After The Trauma provides assistance to domestic violence survivors and training to officials.
"Our primary objective is creating a place to house their growing needs. I believe we can make a difference to these women and their children. It starts one day at a time ...the tragic stories would alarm anyone… but I understand, because I've lived through it… and I want to help the survivors through it,"
says Mildred.
Mildred's story and training have impacted not only domestic violence survivors, but law enforcement, counselors, social workers, military members, and others who have filled venues to hear her speak in the last three years.

This special tells the story of the
pervasive fear during the “D.C. Sniper”
shootings and how the investigation unfolded.
How did John Allen Muhammad, who once seemed
like a loving husband and kind father, turn
threatening and manipulative and, finally, into
an infamous serial killer who brainwashed a
teenager to be his accomplice? Through
interviews with law enforcement, journalists,
John Allen’s ex-wife and their friends who knew
him best, “The Mildred Muhammad Story” paints a
chilling portrait of a man that hatched one of
the most infamous series of shootings in US
history.
